Today is Day 1 of our 40 day fast that we believe God is calling us to! I am sitting here eating grapes and drinking my juice. I will be starting my fast on juice and fruit. For those of you who like fruit this may sound appealing but fruit is not my favorite meal. I am a meat boy! I could eat meat without vegetables and be just fine. I only really like two kinds of fruit too, apples and grapes, so this is really going to be a challenge for me. I went out and got a good dinner with Ashley last night to celebrate the days ahead. I cant tell you how much anticipation is stirring in my spirit and heart right now to see God continue to move in this time. He has already been moving but when we consecrate ourselves to see Him move in greater ways it causes my anticipation to grow.
Thoughts on Fasting:
Stage One: Humility (Psalm 35:13; Ezra 8:21; Isaiah 58:5; Psalm 69:10; I Peter 5:6; James 4:8-10)
I find it interesting as I have been doing research on fasting lately the sheer connection between the physical reactions and the spiritual reactions of our bodies. Scripture is clear about the humility that comes along with fasting. Knowing my desire to eat and the love of food it is humbling to lay down what you enjoy and not eat in hungry moments. If you take the physical elements at the same time that your body is going through when you are fasting it gets “mad” crazy how much they connect. You see in my humility I am asking God to remove from me sin that separates me from Him. I am asking for the spiritual toxins to be removed from my body and transformed into all that He is. As I have been studying the physical things of a fast I have found that the first phase of a fast removes large quantities of waste matter and digestive residues. All of this waste then passes into the bloodstream and can make the first few days of the fast rough. It causes that waste to move into every pore of your body and be released. In this time of the first phase of the fast it is important that we ask God to remove every element of waste (sin) from us and allow it to leave us so that our bodies can then “heal” and it is important that we humble ourselves to see Him as our revealer.
More to come.. 40 days more!
